Mama Kat’s Workshop: The One

This week on Mama Kat’s workshop, I chose the prompt: What moment did you know your spouse was the one?

It wasn’t the way his eyes twinkled when he said my name…

Or the way his hand brushed the back of my thigh, barely grazing the hem of my shorts as he kissed me in the gym parking lot…

It wasn’t the long drives around the city of Waco in his truck…

Or the way he let me drive his truck.  Alone.  Off campus.

It wasn’t the jewelry or the flowers or the cute little notes he’d leave hidden for me…

It happened the moment he took my hands and pulled me up from the kitchen floor, wiping away my tears and ignoring my snotty nose, kissed me and said, “No matter how mad I get, I’ll always love you.  There’s nothing we can’t get through.”

Nearly ten years later, he was right.

And I love him all the more.

When did you know you were in love, Invisible Friends?

It took months of dating Kevin before I thought of him as someone I could marry. I nearly ended it 3 times within the first 8 months we were together. He was such a cold and distant person at times and I was so scarred by a previous bad relationship and breakup that I was almost convinced relationships were way more trouble than they were worth and men were right to never stick around. Then after we had been together for a little over a year and we took our first vacation together (Mystic Seaport) I realized that he HAD stuck around. Somehow this guy whom I always questioned if he really cared had integrated himself so seamlessly into my world that I was almost taking it for granted. Mr. Cold one day said to me that he considered himself very lucky to have me in his lfe. Suddenly I realized that life was going to continue with him in it and I was okay with that.

I honestly don’t know. He was my third grade sweetheart, and we’ve always remained friends…

I would imagine there’s always that “moment” when you know you’ve found the right one. I can’t wait until I know that I’m comfortable enough to be at peace with the man I’m with! Sounds like such a sweet love story!

  7. I couldn’t help reminiscing, while reading each line that you’ve written so beautifully. I found love the first time he held me in his arms and it felt like home.

How sweet is this. I think you’re right. When they kiss you when you’re crying and look your worst–that’s always the best!
